One Plugin Instead of One Per Gateway

The usual way to take payments on Joomla is to install a separate extension for every provider — one for PayPal, another for Stripe, another for whichever local provider your customers actually use. Each brings its own settings, its own update cycle and its own way of breaking. PaymentHood is a single plugin that reaches 30+ providers, so adding or switching a provider happens in a dashboard instead of in your extension manager.

Joomla

VirtueMart Payment Plugin

The longest-established Joomla shopping cart. PaymentHood registers as a native VirtueMart payment method, so it appears at checkout exactly where your customers expect it.

  • Native VirtueMart payment method
  • One-time payments out of the box
  • 30+ providers without extra extensions
  • Joomla 4.0+

Phoca Cart Payment Plugin

A lightweight cart that runs a large number of small Joomla stores. PaymentHood plugs straight into the Phoca Cart payment layer and turns it into a checkout reaching cards, wallets and crypto.

  • Native Phoca Cart integration
  • Accept cards, wallets & crypto
  • 30+ providers, one configuration
  • Joomla 4.0+

J2Commerce Payment Plugin

A full commerce component for Joomla, formerly shipped as J2Store. One PaymentHood plugin replaces the drawer of separate gateway extensions a J2Commerce store usually accumulates.

  • Built for J2Commerce on Joomla
  • One-time payments out of the box
  • 30+ providers without extra extensions
  • Joomla 4.0+

Not sure which cart your site runs?

Open your Joomla administrator and go to Extensions → Manage → Manage, then look for one of these three components.

com_virtuemart

You are on VirtueMart. It adds its own top-level admin menu, and payment methods are configured under VirtueMart → Payment Methods.

com_phocacart

You are on Phoca Cart. Payment methods live under Components → Phoca Cart → Payment Methods.

com_j2store

You are on J2Commerce. The component still carries the J2Store name from before the rename, and payment plugins are listed under its Payment Methods screen.

Why Joomla stores consolidate on one plugin

Every gateway extension you install is another thing to update, another place a Joomla upgrade can break, and another set of credentials to keep straight. One integration removes all of that — and every provider account stays contracted in your own name, with funds settling directly to you.

Live in three steps

The standard Joomla install route — no FTP access and no file editing.

1

Download the plugin

Pick the plugin for your cart and download the ZIP. It is free, with no purchase step and no approval to wait on.

2

Install it in Joomla

Upload the ZIP through Extensions → Manage → Install, then paste your PaymentHood API credentials into the plugin settings.

3

Turn on your providers

Enable the providers you want from your PaymentHood dashboard. Adding another later does not touch your Joomla site at all.

Start with the cart you already run

Create a free account, install the plugin for your cart, and switch on the providers your customers use. The provider directory shows which are available in your market.

Frequently Asked Questions

All three of the widely used ones: VirtueMart, Phoca Cart and J2Commerce. Each has its own PaymentHood plugin built for that cart's payment API, and all three connect to the same PaymentHood account. If you run more than one Joomla site on different carts, you configure your providers once and both sites use them.

Not with PaymentHood, and that is the whole point of it. The usual Joomla pattern is one third-party extension per gateway - one for PayPal, another for Stripe, another for a local provider - each with its own settings, its own update cycle and its own way of breaking. The PaymentHood plugin is a single extension that reaches every provider on your account, so adding or switching a provider happens in your PaymentHood dashboard rather than by installing another extension.

Yes. All three Joomla plugins are free to download and use, and PaymentHood takes no percentage and no per-transaction fee. You keep your own account with each payment provider and they bill you directly for their own processing fees. The only paid plan is Premium at $29 a month, which adds white-label checkout branding and changes nothing about your transaction costs. See pricing.

Joomla 4.0 or newer, for all three carts. Installation is the standard Joomla route - Extensions → Manage → Install - so no FTP access or file editing is needed. Each plugin has its own step-by-step install guide linked from its page.

Yes. The same plugin reaches card processors, regional providers and crypto gateways, so a Joomla store can offer cards alongside the local rails its customers actually use - bank transfer schemes in Europe, mobile-money and bank-API providers across Africa, and others by market. Which ones are available depends on your country; the provider directory lists them all.

No. Installing the plugin is a normal Joomla extension install, and connecting it to your PaymentHood account is a matter of pasting API credentials into the plugin settings. There is no code to write in your template or your cart, and adding a provider later does not touch your site at all.
