Accept Flutterwave
without building the integration

Flutterwave is a payment gateway that lets businesses accept card, bank transfer, mobile money and USSD payments across African markets, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, through one API. The merchant opens and verifies its own Flutterwave account, and the customer pays on Flutterwave's hosted checkout page rather than entering card details on the merchant's site.

Fees
Set and billed by Flutterwave, and published on their pricing page (opens in new tab). PaymentHood adds nothing on top, at any volume.

Written against Flutterwave's own documentation on . This page deliberately states no fees, no counts and no completeness claims, because those change without notice — for anything you are about to build on, Flutterwave's own documentation (opens in new tab) is the authority.

Visa, Mastercard, Verve, Discover and American Express, local and international

Bank transfer

The customer transfers to account details generated for the payment

Mobile money

M-PESA for Kenyan shilling payments, and MTN and Airtel wallets where each operates

Scan-to-pay, listed among Flutterwave's payment channels

Cost

Flutterwave fees and pricing

Two separate bills, and only one of them exists.

What PaymentHood charges
Nothing on your Flutterwave transactions. No percentage and no per-transaction cut, at any volume. Every payment feature is free, and the optional Premium plan only adds white-label checkout branding.
What Flutterwave charges
Flutterwave sets its own rates and bills you directly. PaymentHood never sits between you and that invoice, so switching to or from Flutterwave changes what you pay Flutterwave and nothing else.
What moves the rate
Payment providers price per market and per method rather than as a single global figure. Flutterwave works in several countries, so the country the payment is taken in matters. It settles in NGN, GHS, KES, ZAR, USD, and cross-currency transactions are not priced the same as domestic ones. It also accepts several kinds of payment, and card, transfer and wallet rails each carry their own cost.
Where to check the figure
Flutterwave publishes current rates on their pricing page (opens in new tab). That is the authority, not this page. We deliberately quote no numbers here, because a rate that has quietly changed is worse than no rate at all.
Integration

How PaymentHood works with Flutterwave

A direct Flutterwave integration is not just an API call. These are the parts every team ends up rebuilding — and the parts PaymentHood ships already done.

Credentials
Client ID and client secret exchanged for a short-lived bearer token on Flutterwave's v4 API, held server-side in PaymentHood
Webhook security
Received on a PaymentHood URL that carries a secret key; the payload only identifies the payment and is never trusted for its status
Payment verification
Server-side charge lookup by transaction reference against the Flutterwave API before an order is marked paid
  • Idempotent charge creation, so a retried request never double-charges a customer
  • Automatic failover to another configured provider when Flutterwave is unreachable
  • One reconciliation view across Flutterwave and every other provider you run
  • Provider credentials never reach the storefront or the customer's browser
  • Adding or switching a provider later is a dashboard change, not a re-integration
Setup

How to connect Flutterwave

1

Open your Flutterwave account

Register directly with Flutterwave and complete their onboarding. Funds settle from Flutterwave into your own bank account — PaymentHood never holds merchant money.

2

Add the credentials to PaymentHood

Paste your Flutterwave API credentials into the PaymentHood dashboard. They are stored server-side and never exposed to your storefront.

3

Enable it at checkout

Install the PaymentHood plugin for your platform, paste your PaymentHood API key, and Flutterwave appears as a payment option. Test in sandbox, then switch to live.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Flutterwave supports merchants in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, whose local currencies PaymentHood's Flutterwave connection handles, and names further markets on its own requirements page. You open and verify the Flutterwave account yourself, then connect it to PaymentHood. PaymentHood does not resell Flutterwave or sit in the flow of funds.

Nigerian Naira (NGN), Ghanaian Cedi (GHS), Kenyan Shilling (KES), South African Rand (ZAR) and US Dollar (USD). Which of these you can actually charge depends on the country your Flutterwave account is registered in and what Flutterwave has enabled on it.

No. PaymentHood sends the customer to Flutterwave's hosted checkout page, and the card is entered there. Neither your store nor PaymentHood receives the card number; PaymentHood only learns the outcome, plus the masked card digits Flutterwave reports back.

It never marks an order paid on the strength of a webhook alone. The webhook arrives on a PaymentHood URL carrying a secret key, and its content is used only to find the payment. PaymentHood then looks the charge up on Flutterwave's API by its transaction reference and releases the order only if Flutterwave reports it succeeded.

Yes. A refund started in PaymentHood is sent to Flutterwave for the full captured amount of the charge, and PaymentHood tracks it until Flutterwave reports the refund completed.

No. PaymentHood adds nothing to what Flutterwave charges: no percentage, no per-transaction cut, and no volume threshold where that changes. Flutterwave bills you directly for its own processing fees, and you keep that relationship. PaymentHood's only paid plan is Premium at $29 a month, which adds white-label checkout branding and nothing to your transaction cost. See PaymentHood pricing and Flutterwave's pricing page (opens in new tab).
