The plugin is free and open source. You pay SnapScan's own fees, published on their pricing page (opens in new tab). PaymentHood adds nothing on top.

Payment methods

What J2Commerce customers can pay with

Each method SnapScan supports appears in your J2Commerce checkout. Enabling one is a PaymentHood dashboard setting — nothing changes on the Joomla side.

Payment links

Setup

Connect SnapScan to J2Commerce

Four steps, no code. The full walkthrough with screenshots is in the J2Commerce installation guide.

1

Open a SnapScan account

Register with SnapScan and finish their onboarding. Funds settle from SnapScan to your own bank account.

2

Add it in PaymentHood

Paste your SnapScan credentials into the PaymentHood dashboard. They stay server-side and never reach your storefront.

3

Install the plugin

Download the J2Commerce plugin and install it from Extensions → Manage → Install in your Joomla admin.

4

Enable and test

Paste your PaymentHood API key into the plugin settings, run a sandbox order end to end, then switch to live.

Why PaymentHood

Rather than a direct SnapScan plugin

A single-provider plugin works until you need a second provider. These are the parts you would otherwise build and maintain yourself.

Webhook security
Signed payment notification, validated before the order is released
Payment verification
Server-side payment status re-check against the SnapScan merchant API before fulfilment
Credentials
Merchant API key, held server-side in PaymentHood
  • Add a second provider without touching your J2Commerce checkout
  • Automatic failover when SnapScan is unreachable, instead of a failed order
  • Idempotent charge creation, so a double-submitted order is not a double charge
  • One reconciliation view across every provider you run
  • Free and open source — read the plugin on GitHub (opens in new tab)
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The customer selects SnapScan, a QR code containing your merchant SnapCode plus the order amount and reference is displayed, and they scan it with the SnapScan app. They approve with a PIN or biometric, and the merchant is notified in real time. Because the amount and order reference are embedded in the code, the customer does not retype anything.

Yes — SnapScan is an app-based wallet, so it only reaches customers who have installed it. That is exactly why it belongs alongside cards and pay-by-bank rather than replacing them. PaymentHood lets you offer all three from one integration.

It works, since the customer scans the on-screen code with their phone. It is strongest on mobile-heavy traffic and for invoice or link-based selling, where the payment link can be sent directly to the customer.

Yes. They are competing QR wallets with different user bases, and offering both costs you nothing extra behind PaymentHood — both are configured in the dashboard against the same checkout integration.

No. SnapScan bills you directly. PaymentHood takes no percentage and no per-transaction cut — see PaymentHood pricing.
