Accept Alipay
without building the integration

Alipay is a digital wallet from China. In PaymentHood it is offered through Stripe: the payment runs on the merchant's own Stripe account, and the customer approves it with their Alipay app or Alipay login, on the web or on a mobile device.

What is Alipay?

Coverage
Payers are Chinese consumers, overseas Chinese and Chinese travellers. To accept Alipay, the merchant's Stripe account must be registered in one of the countries Stripe lists for Alipay, across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

Among the countries Stripe supports for Alipay — Stripe's own list is authoritative (opens in new tab).

Fees
Set and billed by Stripe, and published on their pricing page (opens in new tab). PaymentHood adds nothing on top, at any volume.

Written against Stripe's own documentation on . This page deliberately states no fees, no counts and no completeness claims, because those change without notice — for anything you are about to build on, Stripe's own documentation (opens in new tab) is the authority.

Payment methods

Alipay payment methods

Every method below runs through the same PaymentHood checkout. Turning one on or off is a dashboard setting, not a code change.

Alipay fees and pricing

Two separate bills, and only one of them exists.

What PaymentHood charges
Nothing on your Alipay transactions. No percentage and no per-transaction cut, at any volume. Every payment feature is free, and the optional Premium plan only adds white-label checkout branding.
What Stripe charges
Stripe sets its own rates and bills you directly. PaymentHood never sits between you and that invoice, so switching to or from Alipay changes what you pay Stripe and nothing else.
What moves the rate
Payment providers price per market and per method rather than as a single global figure. It settles in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, CHF, NZD, SGD, MYR, and cross-currency transactions are not priced the same as domestic ones. It also accepts several kinds of payment, and card, transfer and wallet rails each carry their own cost.
Where to check the figure
Stripe publishes current rates on their pricing page (opens in new tab). That is the authority, not this page. We deliberately quote no numbers here, because a rate that has quietly changed is worse than no rate at all.
Integration

How PaymentHood works with Alipay

Integrating Alipay through Stripe yourself is not just an API call. These are the parts every team ends up rebuilding — and the parts PaymentHood ships already done.

Credentials
The merchant's own Stripe secret key, the same one used for cards, held server-side in PaymentHood and never exposed to the storefront
Webhook security
Received on a PaymentHood URL that carries a secret key; the payload only identifies the payment and is never trusted for its status
Payment verification
Server-side status check of the Stripe payment before an order is marked paid
  • Idempotent charge creation, so a retried request never double-charges a customer
  • Automatic failover to another configured provider when Alipay is unreachable
  • One reconciliation view across Alipay and every other provider you run
  • Provider credentials never reach the storefront or the customer's browser
  • Adding or switching a provider later is a dashboard change, not a re-integration
Setup

How to connect Alipay

1

Use your Stripe account

Alipay runs on your own Stripe account. If you do not have one, register with Stripe and complete its onboarding, then turn Alipay on in your Stripe Dashboard. Funds settle from Stripe into your own bank account — PaymentHood never holds merchant money.

2

Add the credentials to PaymentHood

Paste your Stripe API credentials into the PaymentHood dashboard. They are stored server-side and never exposed to your storefront.

3

Enable it at checkout

Install the PaymentHood plugin for your platform, paste your PaymentHood API key, and Alipay appears as a payment option. Test in sandbox, then switch to live.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Alipay in PaymentHood runs through Stripe, not through a direct Alipay account. You add Alipay as a provider in your PaymentHood dashboard using your own Stripe secret key, the same key you use for cards, and Alipay has to be turned on in the payment method settings of your Stripe Dashboard.

Stripe describes Alipay's customers as Chinese consumers, overseas Chinese and Chinese travellers. Customers see their purchase amount in CNY.

US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), Australian Dollar (AUD), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Swiss Franc (CHF), New Zealand Dollar (NZD), Singapore Dollar (SGD) and Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Which of these you can use depends on the country your Stripe account is registered in, and Stripe sets a minimum payment amount for each.

No. Your business can't be on Stripe's restricted list or on Alipay's prohibited business list, and your Stripe account has to be registered in a country where Stripe offers Alipay. Your Stripe Dashboard shows whether your account is eligible.

Stripe states that Alipay has no dispute process that could create chargebacks, because the customer authenticates every payment. If a customer raises a problem with Alipay, Alipay may direct them to you to resolve it.

Yes. A refund started in PaymentHood returns the full payment. Stripe allows Alipay refunds up to 90 days after the original payment, and they settle asynchronously, so the final status arrives a few minutes later. A partial refund is possible in your Stripe Dashboard, not from PaymentHood.

Not today. Stripe lists recurring Alipay payments as a private preview, and PaymentHood takes Alipay as a one-off payment, so plan for paying each invoice as it comes due.

No. PaymentHood adds nothing to what Stripe charges: no percentage, no per-transaction cut, and no volume threshold where that changes. Stripe bills you directly for its own processing fees, and you keep that relationship. PaymentHood's only paid plan is Premium at $29 a month, which adds white-label checkout branding and nothing to your transaction cost. See PaymentHood pricing and Stripe's pricing page (opens in new tab).
