Cost
The plugin is free and open source. You pay DPO Pay's own fees, published on their pricing page (opens in new tab). PaymentHood adds nothing on top.

Payment methods

What Phoca Cart customers can pay with

Each method DPO Pay supports appears in your Phoca Cart checkout. Enabling one is a PaymentHood dashboard setting — nothing changes on the Joomla side.

Cards

Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards

Mobile money

Setup

Connect DPO Pay to Phoca Cart

Four steps, no code. The full walkthrough with screenshots is in the Phoca Cart installation guide.

1

Open a DPO Pay account

Register with DPO Pay and finish their onboarding. Funds settle from DPO Pay to your own bank account.

2

Add it in PaymentHood

Paste your DPO Pay credentials into the PaymentHood dashboard. They stay server-side and never reach your storefront.

3

Install the plugin

Download the Phoca Cart plugin and install it from Extensions → Manage → Install in your Joomla admin.

4

Enable and test

Paste your PaymentHood API key into the plugin settings, run a sandbox order end to end, then switch to live.

Why PaymentHood

Rather than a direct DPO Pay plugin

A single-provider plugin works until you need a second provider. These are the parts you would otherwise build and maintain yourself.

Webhook security
Callback validated and reconciled against the transaction record before the order is released
Payment verification
Server-side transaction verification against DPO before fulfilment
Credentials
Company token and service credentials, held server-side in PaymentHood
  • Add a second provider without touching your Phoca Cart checkout
  • Automatic failover when DPO Pay is unreachable, instead of a failed order
  • Idempotent charge creation, so a double-submitted order is not a double charge
  • One reconciliation view across every provider you run
  • Free and open source — read the plugin on GitHub (opens in new tab)
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

More than 20, spanning East, West, Southern and North Africa — including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Mauritius, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. Confirm your specific market with DPO before launch, as coverage changes.

DPO is the pragmatic choice when you sell into several African markets and want one contract instead of five. A single-country provider such as Paystack in Nigeria or Payfast in South Africa will usually offer deeper local payment-method coverage in its home market. Running both behind PaymentHood lets you use DPO for reach and a local provider where it wins — the routing decision is made in the dashboard, not in your code.

DPO supports a broad set of African and major international currencies, including KES, TZS, UGX, RWF, ZMW, BWP, ETB, ZAR, NGN, USD, EUR and GBP. Your available set depends on your account and market.

Yes. Mobile money is offered alongside cards in the markets where DPO operates, which matters in East Africa where wallet penetration is far higher than card penetration.

No. DPO bills you directly for its own fees. PaymentHood takes no percentage and no per-transaction cut — see PaymentHood pricing.
