Cost
The plugin is free and open source. You pay Bancontact's own fees, published on their pricing page (opens in new tab). PaymentHood adds nothing on top.

Payment methods

What Phoca Cart customers can pay with

Each method Bancontact supports appears in your Phoca Cart checkout. Enabling one is a PaymentHood dashboard setting — nothing changes on the Joomla side.

Bank redirect

Customer authorises the payment through their own Belgian bank

Refunds

Refundable through the same scheme for up to a year after the payment

Setup

Connect Bancontact to Phoca Cart

Four steps, no code. The full walkthrough with screenshots is in the Phoca Cart installation guide.

1

Open a Bancontact account

Register with Bancontact and finish their onboarding. Funds settle from Bancontact to your own bank account.

2

Add it in PaymentHood

Paste your Bancontact credentials into the PaymentHood dashboard. They stay server-side and never reach your storefront.

3

Install the plugin

Download the Phoca Cart plugin and install it from Extensions → Manage → Install in your Joomla admin.

4

Enable and test

Paste your PaymentHood API key into the plugin settings, run a sandbox order end to end, then switch to live.

Why PaymentHood

Rather than a direct Bancontact plugin

A single-provider plugin works until you need a second provider. These are the parts you would otherwise build and maintain yourself.

Webhook security
Where a signing secret is configured, the PPRO-Signature header is verified as an HMAC-SHA256 over the timestamp and the exact raw body, inside a five-minute replay window; PPRO's older non-HMAC header is refused outright
Payment verification
Status comes from re-reading the charge at PPRO rather than from the callback — PPRO's webhooks are configured per account and carry no merchant reference, so the server-side poll is what authorises fulfilment
Credentials
PPRO Global API bearer key plus a Merchant-Id header, held server-side in PaymentHood and never exposed to the storefront — sandbox and live keys are separate, and each is rejected by the other environment
  • Add a second provider without touching your Phoca Cart checkout
  • Automatic failover when Bancontact is unreachable, instead of a failed order
  • Idempotent charge creation, so a double-submitted order is not a double charge
  • One reconciliation view across every provider you run
  • Free and open source — read the plugin on GitHub (opens in new tab)
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The customer is redirected from your store, authorises the payment with their own bank, and is returned to you. No card number is entered on your site, so no cardholder data touches your systems.

Not through this integration. PaymentHood supports Bancontact as a browser redirect; the QR and app-intent flows need checkout components this integration does not provide. For a web checkout the redirect is the flow customers see anyway.

No. Bancontact through PPRO is a redirect sale, completed in a single step rather than authorised and captured separately. Refunds are supported, back through the same scheme for up to a year after the payment.

By re-reading the charge at PPRO rather than by trusting an inbound callback. PPRO's webhooks are configured per account and carry no merchant reference, so the server-side check is what releases the order. Where a signing secret is configured, callbacks are additionally verified as an HMAC over the exact raw body, inside a five-minute replay window.

No. PaymentHood adds nothing to your processing cost: no percentage, no per-transaction cut, and no volume threshold where that changes. PaymentHood's only paid plan is Premium at $29 a month, which adds white-label checkout branding and nothing to your transaction cost. See PaymentHood pricing.
